Steeple repair in progress - February 2022
Expected completion November 2023
Every community has historic buildings worth the sacrifice it takes to save them. In the city of Janesville, Saint Patrick Catholic Church is one of those buildings. Built in 1864 for a growing Irish Catholic community, Saint Patrick holds the distinction of the oldest church building in Janesville and the oldest Catholic Church in Rock County still in use. Today, this aged and noble edifice houses a vibrant community. Giving, membership, attendance, and participation are all signs of a bright future here at Saint Patrick. Yet, recent architectural and engineering assessments revealed a need for $2,000,000 of repairs on the spire, masonry, and foundation over the next five years, without which our church would be rendered unusable. With the backing of the diocese we have decided to pursue these repairs and conduct a once in a generation capital campaign. Our parish family is proud of their stately structure, and know its importance in the lives of many families in Janesville and throughout the region. Furthermore, we believe that due to its historical significance, importance to the community, and strong membership the entire community of Janesville has a vested interest in saving Saint Patrick Church.
UPDATE (1/31/23): With increased costs and a desire to provide our community with the best work quality possibility we've found ourselves in need of additional funding to cover those costs. We are now increasing our goal by $500,000 to $2.5 million. Help us preserve the past and prepare for the future!
